We are currently seeking an experienced NOC Engineer to be a key resource on a technical services team. This is a 1 year (Extendable) contract position with in Mountain View, CA. (work location zip code: 94043). This position will pay on a per hour W2 basis in accordance to the qualifications and experience of the candidate. Network Operations Center Engineer
Possible infrequent international travel.
All of them are important, but having someone with “experience configuring Zabbix to efficiently support a large number of hosts” is critical to our long-term success. We are seeking a Network Operations Center (NOC) engineer to work as part of an operations team in the bring-up and operation of a new NOC for wireless backhaul data networks that the company is deploying internationally. The candidate will work in a dynamic environment with X engineers and technicians.
The Network Operations Center (NOC) engineer performs technical analysis of system issues and outages as they occur across a multitude of wireless backhaul data networks. This individual then performs research to troubleshoot and resolve the issue or, depending upon complexity, escalates the issue to higher-level systems administrators and network engineers. The NOC engineer is responsible for researching and documenting various mitigation strategies, and must maintain current and thorough knowledge of the product technology and its significance to network operations. This individual must be able to prioritize remediation of issues in a 24x7 environment with critical uptime requirements. The NOC engineer may also perform basic system administration tasks such as network/system troubleshooting, remote restart and bring-up of wireless backhaul equipment, and execution of various scripts.
Provide timely response to all incidents, outages, and performance alerts.
Categorize issues for escalation to appropriate technical teams
Recognize, identify and prioritize incidents in accordance with business requirements, organizational policies, and operational impact
Monitor and troubleshoot a variety of information and network systems
Create and track operational issue tickets and improve operational efficiency
Document all actions in accordance with standard company policies and procedures
Coordinate with field technicians during installation and operational issue resolution
Notify field service, customer operations, and third-party service providers of issues, outages and remediation status
Work with internal and external technical and service teams to support both temporary and permanent solutions to system issues and to create and/or update knowledge base articles
Perform basic systems testing and operational tasks (installation of patches, network connectivity testing, script execution, etc.)
Document troubleshooting procedures and train new technicians to work in the NOC Support multiple technical teams in 24x7 operational environments with high uptime requirements. Varied shift schedules may include day or evening and/or weekend hours.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, mathematics, computer science, or physics
5+ years of related work experience
Fluency in key network monitoring fundamentals including SNMP
Experience providing remote support using virtual desktop tools including Zabbix
Ability to think creatively to resolve problems in ambiguous situations
Extensive experience with Linux command line interface and Python scripts
Experience configuring Zabbix to efficiently support a large number of hosts
Network engineering and system administration experience
Previous NOC experience
Ability to manage MySQL databases
Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and calmly with customers and technical personnel in high-stress situations
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, mathematics, statistics, computer science, or physics Ability to recognize system performance anomalies from time-based data plots
Experience writing Python scripts
Experience leveraging data visualization plug-ins for Zabbix, such as Grafana.
